Norwich United Reserves 6 Anglian Windows 2
The Reserves grabbed their first home league win of the season with an emphatic 6-2 win over Anglian Windows. The team included Adrian Ager and Paul Atkins who were returning from injury.

It didn't take long for the Planters to open the scoring when after five minutes Lawrence York's cross was fumbled by the keeper under pressure from Michael Townsend and Lloyd Greening was on hand to net from close range. The Anglian Windows keeper had to make two good saves to prevent United stretching their lead six minutes later, firstly from Atkins hook shot and then from Jake Imrie's follow up. The Planters weren't having things all their own way though and when their centre forward sprung the offside trap his deflected shot brought a corner. United failed to clear their lines inviting pressure on Ian Walker's goal and the keeper had to make two fine saves in quick sucession. When they did get the ball down the other end Imrie released Atkins who shot wide.

On 22 minutes United incresed their lead Greening finding Townsend with a delightful through ball and Townsend shot over the keeper and into the net. United were in the ascendency and Ager's fine run from the back set up Townsend who shot wide. Eight minutes before the break Windows then got a goal back against the run of play the forwards shot going across Walker and just inside the far post.

The goal gave Windows new belief and United had to pick their game up which they did, Atkins 30 yard free kick being fumbled wide for a corner, but a minute later Atkins run into the box was brought to a halt by a badly timed tackle and he picked himself up to calmly slot home from the spot to the keepers right. Two minutes later and United further extended their lead just sixty seconds before the half time whistle when Imrie's long ball forward wasn't cleared by the visitors defence and Atkins pressured the defender into an error stole the ball and tucked it past the keeper.

Half Time: Norwich United Reserves 4 Anglian Windows 1

The second half progressed in the same way as the first with United in the acsendency and Windows looking dangerous on the break. The visiting keeper had to make a point blank save from Atkins, while Walker did well to block a shot at the other end. Imrie thought he had extended United's lead but the goal was chalked off for offside, and Greening was unlucky to see his shot from the edge of the area come back off the face of the bar. United finally increased their advantage after 70 minutes when substitute Kenny Reeves touched the ball on for Atkins to complete his hat trick. On 76 minutes Windows reduced the lead the winger hitting home from the efdge of the area off the far post. United restored their four goal advantage ten minutes from the end when Reeves laid the ball off to Greening who fired home his second from the edge of the area.

Full credit to both sides for playing the game in a good spirit after referee Ian Gardner failed to turn up and a deputy was thrown into the fray at the last minute.
