Norwich United v CRC – Ridgeons League Premier Division –
Saturday 12 April 2008
This Saturday sees the visit of CRC to Plantation Park, kick-off 3pm. CRC (Cambridge Regional College) are currently in their second season in the Ridgeons League having replaced the old Cambridge City reserve side, last season saw them struggle but having avoided relegation they have been much more formidable opponents this season, and they handed out a 4-0 beating to the Planters at the Abbey Stadium in October.
A win for the Planters, or matching whatever result Ipswich Wanderers get at home to Walsham-le-Willows, will ensure Premier Division football at Plantation Park next season, although with five games still left and Ipswich Wanderers needing at least six wins from their last seven games this is surely a minor technicality. A win will also see us pass last seasons points total of 44.
Last seasons Plantation Park meeting between the two sides saw the Planters lead two-nil through goals from Adrian Ager and Martin Skipper before CRC stole a draw with two late goals on the opening day of the season. The teams also shared the points in a 1-1 draw at CRC, the Planters goal being scored by Nathan Thompson.
CRC currently sit in seventh position and have only lost once in their last eight games, a 3-1 home defeat by title chasing Needham Market since when they drew 0-0 with Mildenhall and beat Ipswich Wanderers 3-0 on Wednesday night, both games at home. Their last away game was at Dereham when they grabbed a late winner to win 3-2.
Tom Jeal is doubtful after missing Tuesday’s game at Swaffham and Adam Sivell misses out through injury. Rory French returns to the squad after missing Tuesday’s win.
