Assistant Manager Quits
Norwich United Assistant Manager Donny Pye has shocked the club by handing in his resignation. Pye, who has seen the Planters rise to be one of the leading clubs in local non-league football during his two spells at the club, stated "the club is in a very strong position, and I'm sure that Gary Butcher will continue to take the club forward, I just feel that the time is right for me to step down."
Butcher, who took over the managerial reigns at the start of the season, said "Donny's decision comes as a complete surprise, but I would like to express my thanks to Donny for all the hard work he has done for me and the club and wish him well for the future."
Pye first joined Norwich United in the late 1980's as Paul Chick's assistant and together they took the club into the Jewson League for the first time in 1989 and achieved an immediate promotion, which was denied by lack of facilities at the old Gothic ground. Promotion duly followed a season later with a move to their current Plantation Park ground at Blofield. In the first season in the Premier Division the Planters finished 4th and won the League Cup. When Chick and Pye left the club's fortunes plummeted and it was only when Pye joined manager Paul Franklin that the club regained it's Premier Division status in 2002, the club have remained in the Premier Division ever since and reached the Norfolk Senior Cup Final in 2006.
